Tree-ferns are the largest of the ferns. The ‘trunk’ like structure on a tree-fern is actually a greatly enlarged rhizome!
Are the fiddleheads edible, like the smaller ones? The trees look gorgeous!
I forgot to mention how beautiful the photography is, I especially like the top shot with the light coming through the leaves. Really beautiful.
Haven't tried eating them Red Mojo! But they are tough and very hairy looking :) Trees ferns live in my favourite part of the environment and there's usually a waterfall nearby too! Thanks, I love the top shot too, it's what you see when cooling off underneath the fronds - which is what we were doing.
Oh my God! This reminds me of the rain forest I used to visit with my family in the mountains in the island where I was born, the one that was denuded during the atrocious martial law regime of Ferdinand Marcos. His reasoning was that rebels hid in the jungles and forests so he denuded them! Actually a means for illegal logging by his cronies. Idiots. I hope he is in hell! Sorry for being so emotional. Those giant trees will never be replaced.
i love ferns! the top shot is magical. i was going to impress you by recognizing the fiddleheads but red mojo beat me to it.
you are a talented photographer, anon.
:)
Sorry to have upset you Ces ... if it makes you feel any better, we have rainforest areas that are preserved and tree ferns are a favourite for many to plant in their gardens ...
Me too KJ! I see them as ringtail possum tails KJ, but furry fiddleheads are an interesting reference :) Thanks!
Oh no Anon, your photographs make me happy to know that not all humans are idiots and some countries know that some parts of this earth ought to be preserved.
Anon - the last shot of the tight frond - magnificent!
Phew Ces! Unfortunately our rainforests are in danger due to climate change ...
Heehee, thanks Lavender! That last shot wasn't easy, the frond was high up and had to balance as high as able :)
Annony, now you know I'm biased with your work..but some of these are your best stuff yet!! congratulations .. you rock photo woman!!
Thanks Abbey, I'm trying to stay away from 'artistic' so people can see what the plants look like but a few creep in ... :)
Tree-ferns were just made to be partnered with light!
Yes Mountaingirl! They won't share either, blocking what's underneath in the shade :)
OOOh, how pretty and primitive looking--I expect to see dinosaurs hiding among them! Very cool!
A Herbivore’s paradise Mary Stebbins Taitt! HAHA
I love the details on those fiddleheads. Fabulous!
I must be the only one to liken them to Ringtail Possum tails :)
um bongo.
OOOHHHHH something has crawled out of the rainforest!
