Inside
The most colour inside - flags.
In 1796, the Governor of NSW left a sobering warning for their colony by displaying executed murderer, Francis Morgan, hung on a gibbet from the highest point on the island. The gun battery was built some time later but evidence of the convict labour used can still be seen.
Looks cold and damp? It was!

Bang!
In 1906 the One O'clock Gun daily fired so sailors could set their ship's chronometers correctly. The firing stopped during WWII so as not to alarm residents but resumed in 1986. We almost jumped out of our skins at one!Saturday, June 21, 2008
Martello Tower
Contract labour was used to transport the 8000 tonnes of sandstone and build the martello tower, gun battery and barracks. The circular martello tower is the only one in Australia and one of the last of its kind in the world. Friday, June 20, 2008
Fort Denison
After the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788 this island was used as a place of confinement and punishment. By 1842 it was levelled to create a fort but by the 1870s a more modern defensive unit on the shores of outer Sydney Harbour had rendered Fort Denison obselete.
