Jack

Meet Jack. Jack arrived a week ago and should be flying in Northern Australia from the Kimberly across the Gulf of Carpentaria. He was found playing in someone's bathroom in Sydney - a long way from home.


He is a mutation from the likes of Mr and Mrs Rainbow Lorikeet shown in the photos below - a red-collared lorikeet. We don't like cages surrounding birds and have been unable to find his owner. However, he will not survive in the wild of this foreign part of the continent if we set him free. Correction, he will survive but will keep ending up in people's houses wanting a cuddle. Thus, a never-ending circle from foster care to freedom. Combined, life can be forever more traumatic.


Jack has now moved from foster care into adoption by the Anony Family. Tomorrow Jack will be wormed and sprayed for bird lice, then sexed (he might be Jackie) and have his wings clipped.

Run

Baldie will take a year before reaching adulthood. Along with a balanced diet and plenty of excercise, she is sure to attract a Prince Charming with her growing luscious crown.

Teenager

Baldie is growing towards adulthood, where she will not have a problem with baldness because her feathers are growing back!


See how big she has grown compared to Mr Magpie! When she reaches the stage to care for herself, she may or may not fly the coup. Like all teenagers, she sometimes disappears. Anon will keep Baldie’s progress posted.

No RIP

Baldie was very demanding and reminded Anon many times a day it was time for another snack. She sometimes helped herself into the kitchen when Anon didn’t immediately run to her aide!

She used to be afraid of all other living creatures. Now, she liked to share with Mr and Mrs Lori. We did NOT encourage her association with Common Pigeons!


Baldie even had a swimming pool and enjoyed a morning dip.


Her favourite hobbies were playing Marco Polo in the pool with friends and singing. Not at the same time.

Baldie

The zoo vet, wildlife park employees, and other bird experts agreed Baldie's treatment was unusual behaviour for Australian Magpies. Separating the bird from the parents would create more problems and she would ultimately die.

So we adopted Baldie into care within the confines of our backyard so her head wouldn't ultimately fall off! The actual parents were still around, but Baldie thought of Anon as her new Mummy.

Poor Baby

Mr Magpie kept grabbing the poor girl around the neck and telling her off!


Mrs Magpie would peck, peck, peck on the top of Maggie's head!


Until one day we renamed Maggie as 'Baldie'!

Then, Mr and Mrs Magpie had a baby girl. Her name was Maggie.

Once Upon a Time

Mr Magpie put energy into having great plumage and saying "I've got great genes to produce these plumes, how about we get together?".


Mrs Magpie agreed, then used her energy and resources to create eggs.


They had a baby boy. Although there were often squabbles, the family continued to grow, yearly producing a new baby Magpie.
