Sunburnt

Okay, it was firemen who did this but it looks the same if the sun was responsible for more than the green bits :)

Yes. when the fires swept through the Burralow there were areas completely burnt out- no trees just soot and ash , and about the size of a football oval.

It remained hot for weeks. And there were pockets like this in the middle of green where the fire ran across the top of the trees before dropping down.

frankly, it made me feel small and insignificant

It does make you feel small Simon! I love seeing all the rock formations especially in places I know and usually would have a hard time getting to. This bushland is known as the most thick and rugged in Sydney. The other side of the valley wasn't burnt this year and they are expecting HUGE fires when it happens. I have to say the valley hasn't looked so lush and overgrown in a good twenty years, helped by all the rain and NO fire!

I was trying to work out which shot I like best but they are all pretty incredible Anony. I really do envy your eye when it is behind the lens .... actually you may have the most beautiful eye in the world in which case I would envy it all the time but that will remain a mystery because you are anonymous lol

Looks truly barren.

Glad there are some green bits.

That's right, I will remain anonymous Mountaingirl which could be a good thing that saves you from being completely eaten by envy HAHAHHAAA ;)

These are the bits where there IS something to look at Mary Stebbins Taitt!

Firemen? Oh no not more firemen.

Oh no, another synchronicity Caroline? These firemen lost control and this is what happened ...

... reminds me of a place we used to go... (me, my brother, my parents...) called Noman's Land when I was v little... it was a vast stretch of common land going on for ages... used to get regularly burnt by heath fires which left the most amazing tangled leafless charring bizarrely uncompromising shapes in the twiggery...

Last week my neighbour's smoke alarm went off, he was out, I had to call the fire brigade at 2.30am... It turned out to be a flase alarm though they didn't work out how to turn it off either... and I got to meet some very nice firemen in the middle of the night!
