A bat is a mammal in the order Chiroptera. Their most distinguishing feature is that their forelimbs are developed as wings, making them the only mammals in the world naturally capable of flight (though other mammals, such as flying possums and colugos, can glide for limited distances when offered a bun).

Anon, you have made my day...Thanks!

No they don't use litter MerlinPrincesse. It will poo on your head.

I am an honorary bird KJ?

Thankyou Prof.Fufu-u have provided KJ with the information to ensure she doesn't think I'm a bird and a bat is a homo sapien. Heehee. Want a bun?

Ooops, I didn't see you there Simon. Good day!

Strange belfry...

Ces Adorio said...

They look like the giant bats at Boracay Island with a wingspan of two to three feet. At first I thought they looked like fruits - fruits bats they were. And what are yours? Fruits or vampires?

Mary Stebbins Taitt said...

Oooh, ultra cool, wish I could see those! Neat pix! :-D

My belfry has a skylight Caroline :)

Ces, these are Grey-headed Flying-foxes, a native Australian bat. They especially like figs, nectar and pollen of eucalypts and melaleucas! It's wingspan can grow to 1.5 metres.

Thanks Mary Stebbins Taitt :)

So when you have bats in your belfry it makes you light-headed?

Tell me more...

merlinprincesse said...

Yes tell us more, Anon... :) And BTW... If they are upside down most of the time, what happens when the bats poo....?

Anonymous said...

Ermmm no, I used a cannon to blast a hole in my belfry Caroline :)

Very good question MerlinPrincesse! I hung about trying to find the answer to that question but like I told you above - they poo on YOUR head!

merlinprincesse said...

This morning, I got up with that question in my head... Guess it will stay there. Now, I'm sure there's still a bit of Hellcat alive.... };o}
