Did you have many bush fires this year? I thought it was raining all the time...

This was a burnoff to prevent fires which went out of control MerlinPrincesse. Apart from this fire, it is the first year I can remember where we didn't have major fires surrounding Sydney and yes it HAS been raining! The unburnt bush makes next Summer extra scary ...

they used to be known as "black boys" because of the spear they get when they flower!

The fires were pretty scary here. they evacuated all the children and women in 2005 and left us here to defend the houses..

we had hot ash falling on the roof! :o/ I have a fire fighting pump and hoses and reels which attach to a big water tank. Ready for next season.

Shhhh, that's politically incorrect now HAHA! Fires are very scary Simon, I've been evacuated at least 40 times and they used our pool when growing up (and still do) for the helicopter to collect water. The closest to losing the house was burning to the backyard fence which PHEW was close! Next door wasn't so lucky ... Next season is going to be a BIGGIE!

do you think so? ( about next season?)

I guess thats the risk when we live so close to the bush. They sound eerie too (like a big freight train)...and when the wind changes as it sucks the air back into the flames!! still, I love where I live and the bush :o)

(BTW I am ALWAYS politically incorrect Anon! ;o) )

Next Fire Season, yes around Sydney, Simon! Sounds like there has been just as much if not more rain in the mountains ... plenty to burn.

It's a way of life MerlinPrincesse, nothing to be frightened about! Like Simon says, we wouldn't live elsewhere because there are far more advantages. Plus, I kinda like the fires and missing them this year ...

Shocked in the mirror KJ? Hhahhahaa

Very evocative indeed Gledwood :)

I can see all my blog visitors running to the hairdressers right now Caroline :)

YES TrollDoll! I know who you really are too ... ;)
