Difficult to keep the rain off the camera lens. Do you think you could squeeze out of that center window to escape?
Neine.
I think I could Albrecht von Krappa, if I didn't eat my rations! But this chain on my ankle is a problem...
Hurricane-proof. I wonder if it is also tornado-proof. Very interesting structure. Who were they trying to ward off?
WOW! Very cool and interesting--it looks pretty well-built! And pretty, in a way.
Who were the warding off?
Tour Martello!!!! We have them in Quebec!!!! Quebec City was a fortification at first.... We have ramparts and old cannons and Martello Towers...YUP.
There was a mini tornado which swept through Sydney Harbour about a year ago Ces. As you can see the fort is still there :) It was the Crimean War between Russia and England which promoted Sydney building Fort Denison. We were afraid of being attacked by France and America! Heehee
They don't build like that any more Mary Stebbins Taitt. We were warding off the French and Americans but they STILL visit! Hhahhaa
I have cannons coming up MerlinPrincesse :) Quebec must be one of the other few countries to have martello towers!
The colour is great, the pictures are exellent:) Thanx for visiting me again and leaving a comment:)
we have a 'martello tower' here in halifax, too ;)
great pics, all :)
The third picture is the best one....it seems it have some reasons behind that you snapped this shot????
It was a pleasure! Thankyou and for visiting Fugazi :)
I wonder how many martello towers there are for "the last of their kind" in the world LaughingWolf? Heehee
I wanted to show what it would have been like as a convict Raj, with the little light and view of the harbour if in chains... ;)
Love the pic throught the slit with the open window to the left. You picked up the texture of the stone so well.

Sorry, finger bounce - so three for the price of one!
Thankyou Ernest de Cugnac, I was deliberately trying to pick up on that texture :) Not much light reached inside the 'cell'! HAHA, I'll leave your 'finger bounce' there because like that description :)
what did you feel? any one there?? the windows shot look like something out of an Emily Bronte novel!
To be honest Simon, I was too wet and cold to feel anything - almost numb!
I've just found out that the Sydney Martello Tower is one of the "last of its kind" beause built with blocks of sandstone! Phew, because these towers have been popping up everywhere since posted ;)
