Strawberry Swirl Icecream

A cross between Cronulla Ici and Joan of Arch Cymbidiums. This orchid produced two spires this year with the first photograph showing what the flower usually and should look like. THIS is what it looked like last year. However, the other photographs show the second spire quite different from the first, and losing its fine pointed pinkiness! Traditionally called Strawberry Swirl Icecream, I may have to change its name next year due to busy bees!

Gee Anon, thats a big difference - still pretty but the original was spectacular...we cant blame the bees tho - (which you most likely already know) - if bees managed to pollinate here, it would only effect the resulting seed, not the original plant. Is this bloom on the same bulb as last years? If so Id suspect that its reverting to something more like one of its parents...but Ive also had the misfortune of buying plants in bloom which had several bulbs, and later finding out that only one of the bulbs was the plant I was intending to buy - in other words, a meanie seller made one bulb with a gorgeous flower, look like a bigger plant by adding to the pot bulbs from other plants! Naturally we never went back there again!
See what she does next year?
Excellent shots!

I've just been racking my brains after inspecting this pot, as to how many years I've had it, Lavender :) Seven ... I think! Yearly this orchid flowers (most others flower every two years), but it's the first year with two spires. I suspect it's reverting to one of its parents because all the bulbs have been reproduced from the original. There is always the chance someone stuffed one of the bulb's from tomorrow's post into this same pot... we shall see! You are a handy friend to have Lavender :)

You will definitely have a belly ache Ces!!!

Thank you for your excitement MerlinPrincesse!
